Come walk with me in the gardens of Estoril Casino, in Cascais, Portugal. The famous casino was an inspiration for Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 novel Casino Royale. The author stayed at the hotel Palácio Estoril, next to the Casino, at the time of the Second World War. During the War, the Estoril Casino was reputed to be a gathering point for spies, dispossessed royals, and wartime adventurers.
In 1968 the sixth film of the James Bond saga, "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service", was largely shot in Portugal, and the cast stayed at the Hotel Palácio Estoril. Today, Estoril Casino is one of the biggest working casinos in Europe.
