Today's theme is TRIBE & TRIBULATIONS

Bring your cup and your heart ☕

CoffeeTalks is an open invite to a vulnerably honest conversation with a friend over a cup of coffee (or tea, depending on your time zone).

Here are the minutes of our time together:

[0:00 – 6:00] Small-talk as I run the tech-check, catching you up on something exciting that happened this week on The Artidote’s page. The Compassionate Post where everyone supported each other – did you catch it?

[6:00 – 7:30] SETTING THE INTENTION: throwing “perfectionism” out the window so that we can allow ourselves (including myself) to show up perfectly imperfect for our Sunday Lives.

[7:30 – 11:00] BREATHING EXERCISE. We practice a collective Box Breathing technique. Take this technique with you as a tool to use whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed out. Use it also to come back into the present moment whenever your mind has you elsewhere.
[11:30 – 17:00] BREATHING ON PURPOSE; notes about the subtle (but impactful) changes that happen in our life when we consciously pay attention to the involuntary cycle of our breath coming and leaving our body. I share some personal tips on how I daily nurture my own relationship to my breath.
[17:00 – 20:30] JAMMING WITH YOUR QUESTIONS/COMMENTS: the fear that we sometimes carry in our bodies that make us “forget” to breathe, even though we are safe and sound.
[20:30 – 29:00] QUESTION ANSWERED: How have you learned to manage your anxiety? I talk about the problem of cookie-cutter responses to this question. And how it is often not a particular PRODUCT/ACTIVITY (like yoga or boxing) that supports us in regulating our nervous system, but the PROCESS of self-discovery we undergo through certain practices that connect the body, mind and spirit. Self-discovery is a practice.

[29:00 – 40:30 ] TRIBE & TRIBULATIONS: Why & how we come together to form bonds that build a sense of togetherness. A sense of healing. Of growing. I talk about the importance of COMPASSION as an antidote to the hurtful meanings we’ve assigned to neutral events in our lives.

[40:30 – 42:00] A personal THANK YOU note for being one of the most compassionate, supportive, and powerful communities on the Internet.

[42:00 – 53:30] QUESTION ANSWERED: What’s the best way to get over HEARTBREAK? Don’t bypass the pain. Feel it all out. If you bypass the pain you will not learn how to hold that space for yourself. And knowing how to hold a healthy space for pain is one of THE MOST important tools we can pick up as human beings through life. Don’t miss out on learning how to be there for yourself.

[53:30 – 57:30 ] OUTRO: Feel your feelings. Our feelings are there to guide us and teach us what it means to be alive. We need more feelers in the world who are empowered by the knowledge held within their bodies and not crippled by it. A healthy and good life is not one of mindless avoidance but of conscious surrender.

Much love,
Jova

About Jova:
"I'm an artist. And for me art is a lot of things: a song, a letter, the act of painting, watering a plant, how things leave the same way they came into existence, the smile of a well-loved child, the way we often miss out on enjoying the now because we’re focusing on the forever, the million ways we bond, the way we sometimes refuse to dance because we don’t know how, and the questions that are much better off being asked than being answered.
