Reactive IoT

IOT has a massive potential and its impact in our daily life is important. However, IOT data collection and processing is challenging due to the complexity of interconnexion and communication. In this presentation, we will see how to build a reactive architecture for IOT using the actor based model.

Scala Swarm is a Scala programming language conference brought to you by the altruistic crew that organized the #BeeScala conference and introduced a new standard of a great conference. Our approach to conference organization is unconventional and above all holistic - we value every aspect of our attendees and our speakers. We strive for a multilayered and unforgettable experience forged by the people for the people, aim to strengthen the human ties, empower our common potential and raise awareness. We settle for nothing less.

30+ speakers

We have prepared a long list of top speakers, from Scala enthusiasts and open source software builders to Scala experts and community leaders: Alexandru Nedelcu, Amira Lakhal, Andrew Kozlov, Andrzej Ludwikowski, Daniel Beskin, Andrea Peruffo, Daniela Sfregola, Gabriele Petronella, Gideon de Kok, Harry Laoulakos, Heiko Seeberger, Holden Karau, Ivan Topolnjak, Johan Andren, Jon Pretty, Konrad Malawski, Krzysztof Ciesielski, Maria Livia Chiorean, Maxim Novak, Mirco Dotta, Nick Stanchenko, Niko Will, Noel Markham, Pawel Szulc, Pawel Dolega, Petra Bierleutgeb, Renato Cavalcanti, Silvia Pina, Tamer AbdulRadi, Tomer Gabel, Tudor Palanga and Tzofia Shiftan.

In two and a half days, our speakers will be covering topics ranging from Scala compiler optimizations, reactive distributed systems design, microservices architecture, Akka IntelliJ integration, monitoring tools, data validation with Cats, Akka cluster management, monad transformers, recursion schemes, purely functional concurrency handling and many more.

Specialization trainings & the Scala Center hackathon

For those who want to enhance their practical skills on site, we have prepared two individual specialization trainings. The first specialization, Monitoring Microservices with Kamon, kicks off on Tuesday 20th of June and will be conducted by the Kamon core team member & Kamino co-founder, Ivan Topolnjak. The 2nd specialization, Functional Event Sourced Applications with Fun.CQRS, then follows on Wednesday 21st of June and will be conducted by Luc Duponcheel, co-founder of the consulting company Strong[Typed], a Java/Scala instructor/developer. He worked as an independent for Sun, Oracle and Red Hat.

On the same day we will host the Scala Center hackathon, led by the Scala Center Advisory Board chair, Jon Pretty, will be a four-hour event devoted to the development of popular Scala tools and libraries in the ecosystem. This is the perfect time for you to meet with other Scala developers and improve your skills by solving issues in community projects and advancing the state-of-the-art of everyone’s daily toolkit.

Packed with social events

On the June 21st, the opening day of the conference, we are preparing a surprise event for all the attendees. This is just to outline the importance of human ties and interactions and the networking aspect of the Scala Swarm. Socializing opportunities will continue throughout the event with highlights on the 23rd of June, when we will seamlessly integrate with the São João festival, one of the liveliest street festivals in Europe and then a post conference excursion where we will take you on a private boat cruise and finish with a Port wine caves visit.
